RTJ GOLF TRAIL CELEBRATES 10 MILLIONTH ROUND OF GOLF
Oct. 23, 2013 - What started as a concept to enhance the image of a state has turned out to be one of the most successful achievements in the golf industry. Today, the Alabama’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail celebrates its 10 millionth round of golf since opening in 1992.
Known as America’s Original Golf Trail, the vision of creating a golf trail came from Dr. David G. Bronner, the CEO of the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The golf course designs started with Robert Trent Jones after coming out of retirement and have continued with Roger Rulewich, Jones’ protégé. The original courses opened in 1992 and additional courses have been added over the years. Now the Trail has 26 courses on 11 different sites across Alabama. Before the Trail opened in 1992, Alabama Tourism revenue was under $2 billion. In 2012, tourism revenues exceeded $10.6 billion and the Golf Trail was the state’s top attraction.
Instead of just honoring one person as our 10 millionth visitor, we are celebrating across the Trail and every golfer on Oct. 23 will be honored," said John Cannon, President of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. "Each golfer on that day will receive a voucher for a free round of golf in the coming months. Our golfers – local, regional, national and international – have been very loyal to the RTJ Golf Trail and this is a way of saying thank you while celebrating this significant milestone," said Cannon. In addition to the free golf voucher, each of the 11 locations did something special for our guests. "From food specials to merchandise sales to cakes celebrating the 10 millionth visitor, all 11 sites put their own personal touch on this celebration across the entire Trail."
New Website Design for RTJGolf.com
As the Trail prepares to welcome the next 10 million visitors, www.rtjgolf.com has undergone a major redesign. "The website is now more visually appealing and is simpler in helping golfers do what they love – play golf. From scheduling tee times to selecting travel packages to shopping for golf merchandise, we believe the new website will be very appealing to our current and future customers."
