The opening hole on the Short Course is the first of many forced carries over the lake. A large green sits steeply above the water's edge with a bunker guarding long.
The second hole is the second shortest hole on the Short Course, but it is still no easy task. A pot bunker cuts into the hillside of an elevated green.
A long iron or hybrid is needed with the tee shot on the third hole. The shot is all carry over water and a deep greenside bunker. The green is severely undulated so make sure to find the correct section.
The most difficult hole on the Short Course and, for that matter, one of the most difficult at Silver Lakes, is the par 3 fourth. The green sits on a peninsula with a bunker sitting in front that will catch in shots left short.
The first of two par 3s without water, the fifth hole offers a welcome respite from the fingers of the lake. The tee shot is uphill to a large, elevated green and a well-struck shot will offer a great chance at birdie.
The longest par 3 at Silver Lakes is found on the Short Course. From the tips, the sixth hole plays 254 yards. Thankfully, the tee is elevated so the hole plays shorter than its yardage. A pond and waterfall front the wide green.
The seventh is the shortest and easiest hole on the Short Course. The green is angled away from the tees and a long putt will play like a ride on a roller coaster due to the massive undulations. Aim at the pin and knock it close for a birdie chance.
You return to the lake for the final two holes on the Short Course. The green on the eighth hole juts out into the center of the lake on a peninsula, but is fairly accessible due to the hole's lack of bunkers.
The final tee shot over the lake is a great ending to one of the Trail's best Short Courses. The shot is slightly elevated to green that sits on a peninsula and has a bunker waiting for shots long and right.
