Get Golf Ready in 5 Days: $99 per golfer Register Online
Give us five days and we'll give you a sport for a lifetime. Saturdays August 7-September 11 (8:00-9:00 am; class not held on August 22; make-up on September 18), Sundays September 19-October 17 (3:00-4:00 pm; make-up on October 31) and Saturdays October 9-November 20 (10:00-11:00 am; class not held on October 23 and November 13). Day 1 - Awakening the Golfer in You: Just like when you were in grade school, the first day is always the easiest and the most important. During this first lesson, you'll learn:
• The history of golf • Proper etiquette on and off the golf course • How to dress and what to carry in your bag • How to find your way around the golf facility and the golf course • How to stand, grip and take aim • The role each golf clubs plays and when to play it • Putting Day 2 - Become One with the Course: During the second lesson, you'll become more comfortable on the course as you experience the art of the short game. On the second day, you'll learn: • Chipping, pitching and green-side bunker shots • Everything you need to know about golf carts • Keeping healthy with golf and how to warm up • How to care for the course, repairing divots and raking bunkers • Speed of play and being aware of other golfers on the course Day 3 - The Turn: On the golf course, when you've reached the halfway mark, it's called "the turn." Here the turn means you're halfway to becoming a golfer. On day three, you'll learn: • Using your irons and playing approach shots • Stretching and how to avoid injury • Which golfer in a group plays first • The importance of being able to identify your golf ball • The rules of the fairway, the rough and bunkers • Introduction to "it's okay rules" Day 4 - Driving School: You know your way around the green, the fairway, bunkers and even the rough. Now it's time to step into the tee box and let it rip. On the fourth day, you'll learn: • How to use your woods • How and where to tee off from • Which tee markers to use and when • Where to park your golf cart at the teeing area/putting green • The speed of play when it comes to ready golf • Where to safely stand at all times Day 5 - Take Your Swing: Over the course of the first four days, you've learned the what, when, where, why and how. Now it's time to do. On the final day, you'll learn: • How to keep score • Understanding the basic rules of golf • Navigating from tee to green and green to tee • How to read on-course signage • Tips for playing in outings and scramble formats • About upcoming opportunities to play golf Get Golf Ready in 5 Days Follow-Up Class: $99 per golfer Register Online Saturdays, July 10-August 14 (9:00-10:00 am) This class is designed to be a continuation of the original Get Ready for Golf in 5 Days class. During these 5 sessions, you will develop more skills and confidence in your golfing abilities and venture onto the golf course twice more. Golf Fitness and Performance Class Register Online A series of 6 sessions designed to get your body in the best condition to perform the movements of the golf swing. This class is all encompassing and will appeal to young and old, male and female, par-shooters to beginners. The goal of the class is to have you in the best physical shape to stand the rigors of this game. Warm-up and Injury Prevention Mobility and Flexibility Balance and Stability Recovery and Nutrition Strength and Endurance Speed and Power Development The sessions will be led by: Neil Thompson - PGA Director of Instruction at Oxmoor Valley, TPI Level III Golf Pro and Junior Instructor Michael Ryan - Director of Sports Medicine at Champion Sports, ATC, CSCS, PGA Tour Head Strength & Conditioning Coach All sessions start at 5:30 PM and run for approximately 45 minutes to one hour, after which you are free to hit range balls and feel the difference in your swing. Neil and Michael will be present until 7:00 PM to observe these swings and answer any questions. The classes will be held at the Academy of Golf at Oxmoor Valley. Brush Up on Your Basics Register Online This series of three lessons is designed to ensure sound fundamentals. This course is not just designed for the beginner golfer as swing faults invariably occur from a poor address position. At the end of the three lessons, you will have a better understanding how your setup position relates to your golf swing. (All lessons will be held Saturdays from 9:00-10:00 am) October 9, 2010: The Grip - Learn to hold the club correctly, apply the correct pressure points and hinging motions on a repetitive basis. October 16, 2010: Posture - Learn how to stand to the ball correctly, feel balance in your setup and develop a repeatable pivot motion throughout your swing. October 30, 2010: Aim, Alignment & Ball Position - Understand these three interwoven aspects in relation to shot-shaping and how you can transfer them to the shots you hit on the golf course. Cost: $100 for all three lessons or $40 each Individual Club Clinics Register Online A golf lesson designed to improve certain aspects of your game. All abilities welcome. (All lessons will be Sunday afternoons from 2:00-3:00 pm) September 19, 2010: The Driver - Are you getting the most distance from the tee? September 26, 2010: Irons - Drills to ensure consistent contact and distance control. October 3, 2010: Sand Wedge - Learn to get it up-and-down from the sand, rough and the dreaded 50-yard shot. October 10, 2010: Putter - Pick out a correctly-fitted putter and how to read a green correctly to eliminate those annoying three-putts. Cost: $125 for all four lessons or $40 for each |
